Internal Link Extractor: what it does and an example result

The free internal link extractor runs in your browser, needs no sign-up and never sends what you type anywhere.

Quick answer

This internal link extractor reads pasted HTML and lists every link as internal, external or other, with its anchor text and rel attribute. It flags empty anchors, generic text like "click here" and nofollow on your own pages. Good internal links use descriptive anchors and point important pages to each other.

How many internal links should a page have?

What makes good anchor text?

Good anchor text is descriptive, reasonably concise and relevant to the page it links to. Avoid generic text such as "click here" and avoid stuffing keywords into every anchor. See Google's link best practices.

Should internal links be nofollow?

No, internal links normally should not be nofollow. Nofollow asks Google not to associate your site with the target, which makes little sense for your own pages. To keep a page out of results, use noindex instead, since nofollow does not stop indexing.

Example

Example: with the domain example.com, the sample HTML has 8 links. 5 are internal (Home, Services, roof repair cost guide, Click here and Log in), 2 are external (gov.uk and the sponsored partner store) and 1 is a mailto link. 2 links carry nofollow, and the tips flag the generic "Click here" anchor and the nofollow on the internal log in link.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as an internal link?

An internal link points to another page on the same website. This tool treats relative URLs such as /contact/ and absolute URLs on your domain, with or without www and on subdomains, as internal. Change the domain field if your site uses a different one.

Why do I need an internal link extractor?

It shows quickly which pages a page links to and with what anchor text. That helps you find orphan pages, generic anchors, accidental nofollow tags and missed chances to link important pages from your strongest content.

Does it follow links or crawl my site?

No. It only reads the HTML you paste, so it works for one page at a time and never sends requests. To map a whole site, run it on your key pages or use a crawler, then combine the CSV exports in a spreadsheet.

Are links in navigation and footers included?

Yes, if they are in the HTML you paste. Navigation and footer links are real internal links, but contextual links inside the main content usually say more about how pages relate. Paste only the article body if you want to review those.

Can Google follow JavaScript links?

Google can reliably follow links only when they are a elements with an href attribute. Links built with onclick handlers or without href may not be crawled. That is why this extractor only lists a tags with href.

Is my HTML uploaded anywhere?

No. The page is parsed in your browser with the built in DOMParser, which does not run scripts or load resources. The CSV is created locally, and nothing is stored or tracked.
