A CPM calculator finds cost per thousand impressions. CPM = cost ÷ impressions × 1,000, so $500 for 125,000 impressions is a $4.00 CPM. Rearrange it to get cost (CPM × impressions ÷ 1,000) or impressions (cost ÷ CPM × 1,000). Compare CPM only across similar placements, audiences and ad formats.
A CPM calculator is a tool for the cost per mille (thousand) impressions pricing model used in display, video and social advertising. It uses CPM = cost ÷ impressions × 1,000 and rearranges that formula to solve for cost or impressions.

CPM = total cost ÷ impressions × 1,000, so $250 for 50,000 impressions is a $5 CPM. Google Ads describes CPM bidding as paying per thousand impressions in its CPM definition. Use the cost and impressions from the same date range.
A good CPM is one that delivers your goal at a cost you can afford, not simply the lowest number. Prices vary widely by country, audience, platform, season and format, so compare CPM against similar campaigns and also track clicks and conversions.
CPM charges per thousand impressions, while CPC charges per click. CPM suits awareness campaigns where views matter, and CPC suits traffic goals. You can convert between them: effective CPC = CPM ÷ (CTR × 1,000).
| Cost | Impressions | CPM |
|---|---|---|
| $100 | 50,000 | $2.00 |
| $500 | 125,000 | $4.00 |
| $1,200 | 200,000 | $6.00 |
| $3,000 | 300,000 | $10.00 |
| $750 | 50,000 | $15.00 |
Example: a sponsored newsletter placement costs $500 and delivers 125,000 impressions, so CPM = 500 ÷ 125,000 × 1,000 = $4.00. If another publisher quotes a $6 CPM, the same $500 would buy 500 ÷ 6 × 1,000 = 83,333 impressions.
CPM stands for cost per mille, where mille is Latin for thousand. It is the price an advertiser pays for one thousand ad impressions, and it is the standard way to price display, video, podcast and social media advertising.
Divide the budget by the CPM and multiply by 1,000. A $1,000 budget at a $8 CPM buys 1,000 ÷ 8 × 1,000 = 125,000 impressions. Choose Impressions in the calculator to do this automatically.
Multiply the CPM by impressions and divide by 1,000. 200,000 impressions at a $6 CPM costs 6 × 200,000 ÷ 1,000 = $1,200. Choose Total cost in the calculator to solve for cost.
vCPM means viewable CPM, where you pay only for impressions that are counted as viewable. Google Ads uses vCPM on the Display Network, so the formula is the same but impressions mean viewable impressions only.
No. A very low CPM can mean poor placements, low quality inventory or an audience that does not convert. Judge CPM together with click through rate, conversions and cost per acquisition before choosing where to spend.
Publishers sometimes quote sponsored posts as a flat fee. Divide the fee by the expected impressions and multiply by 1,000 to get an effective CPM, which lets you compare offers from different sites fairly.
