    Quick answer

A CPC calculator divides ad spend by clicks. $1,200 spent for 800 clicks is a $1.50 CPC. Add conversions to get cost per acquisition (spend ÷ conversions) and revenue to get ROAS (revenue ÷ spend × 100). A higher CPC is fine if CPA stays below what a customer is worth.

    What is a CPC calculator?

A CPC calculator is a tool that measures the average cost of each ad click. It uses CPC = spend ÷ clicks, plus CTR = clicks ÷ impressions × 100, CPA = spend ÷ conversions and ROAS = revenue ÷ spend × 100.

How do you use the CPC Calculator?

Real screenshot of the CPC Calculator with the steps marked.
    1. Enter total ad spend for the period.
    2. Enter the number of clicks from the same campaign and dates.
    3. Optionally add impressions, conversions and revenue.
    4. Read CPC, CPA and ROAS in the results.
    5. Check the breakdown for CTR, conversion rate and the break even CPC.

How do you calculate cost per click?

CPC = total ad spend ÷ number of clicks, so $300 for 200 clicks is a $1.50 CPC. In Google Ads you set a maximum bid, and the actual charge is often lower, as the CPC definition explains. Use spend and clicks from the same date range.

    What is a good CPC?

A good CPC is one where your cost per acquisition stays below the profit a customer brings. Break even CPC = profit per conversion × conversion rate, so $60 profit at a 3% rate supports up to $1.80 per click before you lose money.

How is ROAS different from ROI?

ROAS = revenue ÷ ad spend and ignores other costs, while ROI subtracts all costs including product cost. A 400% ROAS means $4 revenue for every $1 of ads, but you could still lose money if margins are thin.

    CPCSpend ÷ clicks$1,200 ÷ 800 = $1.50
    CTRClicks ÷ impressions × 100800 ÷ 24,000 = 3.33%
    Conversion rateConversions ÷ clicks × 10024 ÷ 800 = 3.00%
    CPASpend ÷ conversions$1,200 ÷ 24 = $50.00
    ROASRevenue ÷ spend × 100$4,800 ÷ $1,200 = 400%

    Worked example

    Example

    Example: a campaign spends $1,200 for 800 clicks from 24,000 impressions, then gets 24 sales worth $4,800. CPC = 1,200 ÷ 800 = $1.50, CTR = 3.33%, CPA = 1,200 ÷ 24 = $50, and ROAS = 4,800 ÷ 1,200 × 100 = 400%.

    Frequently asked questions

What does CPC mean in marketing?

CPC means cost per click, the average amount you pay each time someone clicks your ad. It is also the name of the pay per click bidding model used by Google Ads, Microsoft Ads and most social ad platforms.

What is the difference between CPC and CPA?

CPC is the cost of one click, while CPA is the cost of one conversion such as a sale or lead. CPA = CPC ÷ conversion rate, so a $1.50 CPC at a 3% conversion rate gives a $50 CPA.

How can I lower my CPC?

Improve ad relevance and expected click through rate, use tighter keyword groups, add negative keywords, improve landing page experience and test bidding strategies. Better quality usually lowers what you need to pay for the same position.

    What is a good ROAS?

A good ROAS covers product costs, ad spend and overheads with profit left over. With a 50% gross margin you need at least 200% ROAS just to break even on ad spend, so your target depends on margins.

Why is my average CPC higher than my bid?

Average CPC is usually below the maximum bid, but automated bidding and daily budget pacing can charge more on some clicks. Check your bid strategy settings and look at the average over a full week rather than one day.

Can I use this for organic search?

Organic clicks are free, but you can use CPC to value them. Multiply organic clicks by the CPC you would pay for the same keyword to estimate traffic value, as the traffic value calculator on this site does.
