    Quick answer

A conversion rate calculator divides conversions by visitors and multiplies by 100. 156 sales from 5,200 visitors is a 3% conversion rate. To hit a goal, divide target conversions by the rate: 300 sales at 3% needs 10,000 visitors. Raising the rate is often cheaper than buying more traffic.

What is a conversion rate calculator?

A conversion rate calculator is a tool that shows what percentage of visitors complete a goal such as a sale, lead or sign up. The formula is conversion rate = conversions ÷ visitors × 100, and required visitors = target conversions ÷ conversion rate.

How do you use the Conversion Rate Calculator?

    1. Enter the number of visitors or sessions for a period.
    2. Enter the conversions in the same period, such as sales, leads or sign ups.
    3. Add a goal conversion rate and a target number of conversions.
    4. Read your current rate, the visitors needed at each rate and the extra conversions a better rate would bring.
    5. Use the breakdown to explain the numbers to your team or client.

How do you calculate conversion rate?

Conversion rate = conversions ÷ visitors × 100, so 50 conversions from 1,000 visitors is 5%. Google Ads uses the same idea with ad interactions instead of visitors, as shown in its conversion rate definition. Keep both numbers from the same period and source.

What is a good website conversion rate?

A good conversion rate is one that beats your own past rate for the same traffic source and offer. Rates vary hugely by industry, price, device and intent, so a lead form and a luxury product page should never be judged against the same number.

How many visitors do I need for a sales goal?

Divide your target conversions by your conversion rate as a decimal: 300 sales at a 3% rate needs 10,000 visitors. If you raise the rate to 4%, the same goal needs only 7,500 visitors, which shows why conversion rate optimisation matters.

    Worked example

    Example

    Example: a store gets 5,200 visitors and 156 orders in a month, so conversion rate = 156 ÷ 5,200 × 100 = 3.00%. To reach 300 orders it needs 300 ÷ 0.03 = 10,000 visitors. At a 4% goal rate the same 5,200 visitors would bring 208 orders, 52 more.

    Frequently asked questions

    What counts as a conversion?

A conversion is any valuable action you choose to track, such as a purchase, form submission, phone call, sign up or download. Define it before you measure, and only count one type at a time when you compare rates.

Should I use sessions or users for conversion rate?

Either works if you stay consistent. Sessions based rates are lower when people visit several times before buying, while user based rates show the share of people who converted. Always compare like with like.

Can conversion rate be over 100%?

Yes, in some setups. If every conversion is counted, one visitor can convert several times, and Google Ads notes that tracking several actions can push the rate above 100%. For a simple site rate, count one conversion per visitor.

How do I improve my conversion rate?

Match the page to the search intent, make the main offer and call to action obvious, speed up the page, reduce form fields, add trust signals such as real reviews and guarantees, and test one change at a time.

Why did my conversion rate drop?

Common causes are a change in traffic mix, broken forms or tracking, slower pages, price changes or seasonality. Segment by source and device first, because a flood of low intent traffic can lower the rate without any page problem.

    Does SEO improve conversion rate?

SEO can improve conversion rate by attracting visitors whose search intent matches your offer and by improving page experience. Targeting buying intent keywords usually converts better than broad informational topics, though both have a place in a strategy.
