Local Keyword Generator: what it does and an example result

The free local keyword generator runs in your browser, needs no sign-up and never sends what you type anywhere.

    Quick answer

A local keyword generator combines each service with each city and modifier, such as emergency plumber Leeds or dentist near me. It gives ideas, not search volumes, so check demand in Google Keyword Planner or your SEO tool. Target real service areas only and avoid near identical city pages, which Google treats as doorway abuse.

What is a local keyword generator?

A local keyword generator is a tool that builds keyword combinations from three lists: services, locations and modifiers. Keywords = services × locations × patterns, so 3 services, 4 towns and 4 patterns give 48 ideas before duplicates are removed.

How do you use the Local Keyword Generator?

    1. List your services, one per line, using the words customers say (plumber, boiler repair).
    2. List the towns, cities or neighbourhoods you really serve.
    3. Add modifiers such as emergency, best, cheap or 24 hour, and tick the patterns you want.
    4. Read the keyword list and remove anything that does not match what you offer.
    5. Copy the list or download the CSV, then check search volume before planning pages.

How do I find local keywords for my business?

Start with service + city combinations, then check which ones have demand in Google Keyword Planner, Search Console or a keyword tool. Look at your Search Console queries for place names people already use, and at Google's autocomplete and People also ask boxes for local questions.

Should I create a separate page for every city?

Only when you have something genuinely different to say for each place, such as a local office, team, projects or prices. Google's spam policies list pages targeted at specific cities that funnel users to one page as doorway abuse. One strong service area page often works better.

Can I put keywords in my Google Business Profile name?

No. Google's guidelines for representing your business say the name must match your real world name, and adding unnecessary information can get the profile suspended. Use local keywords naturally in your description, services and posts instead.

    Example

Example: a plumbing company enters 3 services (plumber, boiler repair, drain unblocking), 4 areas (Leeds, Headingley, Horsforth, Roundhay) and 2 modifiers (emergency, 24 hour). With service + city, service in city and modifier patterns ticked, the tool gives 48 keyword ideas plus 3 near me terms. The next step is to check volume and keep only areas the business actually covers.

    Frequently asked questions

Does this tool show search volume?

No. It only combines your words into keyword ideas, because search volume needs data from Google or an SEO tool. Paste the list into Google Keyword Planner, Semrush or Ahrefs to see volume and difficulty, and treat zero volume terms as low priority.

Should I use near me in my page content?

Usually not. Google works out near me searches from the searcher's location, so writing near me on a page looks awkward and rarely helps. Focus on your real address, service areas, Google Business Profile and genuine local content.

What ranks a business in the Google local pack?

Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence. Keep your Business Profile complete and accurate, choose the right categories, collect genuine reviews and make sure your website clearly covers your services and locations.

How many local keywords should one page target?

Target one main local keyword per page plus its close variants, such as plumber leeds, plumbers in leeds and leeds plumbing. Different services or intents need their own pages, while near identical city variants can usually share one page.

    Are local keywords lowercase?

Search engines ignore capital letters, so keyword lists are usually lowercase for easy de duplication. When you write titles, headings and copy, use normal capitals for place names and brands so the text reads naturally.

Can I use these keywords for Google Ads?

Yes. The list works as a starting point for local ad groups. Group keywords by service, choose match types in Google Ads, and use location targeting so ads only show in the areas you serve rather than relying on city names alone.
