Log each business listing, spot NAP mismatches instantly and export the tracker as a CSV spreadsheet.
1. Your correct NAP (the version every listing should match)
2. Add a listing as it appears on the directory

Rows live only in this browser tab. Download the CSV before you close the page, and open it in Google Sheets or Excel.

The free citation tracker template runs in your browser, needs no sign-up and never sends what you type anywhere.
A local citation tracker is a sheet that lists every directory where your business appears, with the exact name, address and phone shown there and the listing status. Set one master NAP that matches your Google Business Profile, compare every listing against it, and fix mismatches and duplicates before building new citations.
A local citation tracker is a tool or spreadsheet for recording business listings on directories, maps and social platforms. This one normalises each listing's name, address and phone (ignoring case, punctuation, St versus Street and +44 versus 0) and compares them with your master NAP to flag real differences.

A local citation is any online mention of your business name, address and phone number (NAP), such as a listing on a map app, directory, social profile or local news site. Google's local ranking help page says prominence is based partly on information about the business from across the web, so accurate, consistent mentions support it.
Yes, consistent NAP helps customers and search engines trust that listings describe the same business. Google requires your Business Profile name to match the real world name and the address and phone to be accurate. A wrong phone on an old directory is mostly a customer problem: people call a dead number and leave.
There is no official number. Accuracy on the major platforms matters more than volume: Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect, Facebook, and the leading directories in your country and industry. After those, add only relevant local and niche sites that real customers use.
| Listing shows | Master NAP | Tracker result |
|---|---|---|
| 12 Example St | 12 Example Street | Match (abbreviation) |
| +44 113 496 0123 | 0113 496 0123 | Match (same number) |
| Northgate Plumbing | Northgate Plumbing Ltd | Match (legal suffix ignored) |
| 14 Example Street | 12 Example Street | Mismatch: address |
| 0113 496 0999 | 0113 496 0123 | Mismatch: phone |
Example: a Leeds plumber has 5 listings. Google Business Profile and Bing Places match the master NAP, Apple Business Connect shows 14 Example Street instead of 12, Foursquare has an old phone number, and Yelp is not claimed. The tracker reports 3 of 5 listings need attention, so the plan is: fix Apple and Foursquare first, then claim Yelp.
At minimum: directory name, listing URL, name, address and phone as shown, status (live, pending, needs update, not claimed, duplicate), login owner and date checked. This tool exports the first seven columns plus your master NAP row as CSV.
They overlap. A NAP checker compares a few pasted listings once. A citation tracker keeps a running list of every listing with its status, so you can manage claims and updates over months. Use both together when cleaning up an old business.
Google does not list citations by name. It says local results depend on relevance, distance and prominence, and that prominence uses information from across the web, such as links. Treat citations as trust and visibility signals rather than a growth lever.
Be careful. Mass submissions to hundreds of low quality directories add little and are hard to keep accurate. Fix the major platforms by hand first, then add a short list of real local and industry directories. Never pay for listings that hide paid links.
Recheck the main listings every 3 to 6 months and straight away after a move, a phone change or a rebrand. Directories sometimes overwrite data from data aggregators or user edits, so a scheduled check catches errors before customers find them.
Nowhere outside this page. The tracker runs in your browser and does not upload or save anything. Rows disappear when you close the tab, so download the CSV and keep it in Google Sheets, Excel or your project folder.
