Anchor Text Generator: what it does and an example result

The free anchor text generator runs in your browser, needs no sign-up and never sends what you type anywhere.

    Quick answer

An anchor text generator creates anchor ideas from your brand, URL, keyword and page topic, grouped into branded, naked URL, descriptive, partial match, generic and exact match, and spreads your planned links across them. Rule of thumb: lead with branded and URL anchors and keep exact match keyword anchors to about 5% or less.

What is a anchor text generator?

An anchor text generator is a tool that builds anchor variations from your inputs and assigns each type a target share. Links per type = planned links x share, rounded so the total matches. The default mix is 35% branded, 20% URL, 15% descriptive, 15% partial, 10% generic and 5% exact.

How do you use the Anchor Text Generator?

    1. Enter your brand name and the target keyword for the page.
    2. Paste the target page URL and its title or main topic.
    3. Add two or three related terms and how many links you plan to build.
    4. Read the table to see how many links each anchor type should get.
    5. Copy the anchor list and use the ideas only where they fit the sentence naturally.

What is the best anchor text for backlinks?

The best anchor text is short, descriptive and natural, which most often means your brand name, the page title or the URL. Google asks for anchor text that is descriptive and relevant to the linked page in its link best practices. Keyword stuffed anchors add risk without helping readers.

How often should I use exact match anchor text?

Use exact match keyword anchors for about 5% or fewer of your links. Natural links rarely repeat the same commercial phrase, and Google lists optimized anchor text in guest posts and press releases as link spam. Let exact match anchors happen naturally instead of requesting them.

What is a partial match anchor?

A partial match anchor contains your keyword or most of its words plus other text, such as "affordable link building services for small sites". It reads more naturally than exact match while still describing the page. Keep it to roughly 10 to 20% of your profile.

    Frequently asked questions

Does Google look at anchor text?

Yes. Google says anchor text helps it understand what the linked page is about, so it should be descriptive, concise and relevant. That is why manipulated anchors matter: repeating a money keyword across many links is a common sign of paid or exchanged links.

Should I ask publishers for a specific anchor?

It is safer not to insist. Suggest your brand name or page title and let the editor write the sentence. An editor choosing the wording is part of what makes a link editorial, while demanding a keyword anchor looks like a link deal.

Are generic anchors like "click here" bad?

They are not harmful in small numbers, and natural profiles include them. However they tell users and Google little about the target page. Google recommends descriptive anchors, so keep generic anchors to a minority and prefer wording that describes the page.

What is a naked URL anchor?

A naked URL anchor uses the address itself as the clickable text, such as zahidawais.com or https://zahidawais.com/link-building/. It is very common in citations, directories and forum posts, and it is one of the safest anchor types for your profile.

How should internal link anchors differ?

Internal links on your own site carry less risk, so you can use descriptive keyword anchors more often. Still vary them, make each anchor describe the target page, and avoid linking many pages with the same anchor to different URLs.

Is this anchor text generator free and private?

Yes. It is free, works in your browser with plain JavaScript and does not upload, store or track your brand, URL or keywords. Copy the list you need and close the tab.
